Terms of Service

Effective 7 July 2026. Copal is operated by Bison Ventures Limited. Questions: support@copal.uk.

By creating an account or connecting an agent to Copal, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

The service

Copal is a hosted, Obsidian-compatible markdown vault. It stores your notes and attachments, exposes them to your AI agents and MCP clients over an authenticated API (MCP and REST), syncs to Obsidian on your devices over WebDAV, and provides server-side keyword and semantic search. Copal works with Obsidian but is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, Obsidian.md or Dynalist Inc.

Eligibility & account

You must be at least 16 and able to form a binding contract. Sign-in is a passwordless magic link; keep access to your email secure, as anyone who can receive your sign-in link can access your account. You are responsible for the agents and clients you connect and for the vault tokens you mint.

Acceptable use

You agree not to: store or process content that is unlawful, infringing, or that you have no right to store; use Copal to harm others or breach their rights; attempt to break tenant isolation, exceed or evade plan limits, or disrupt the service; or resell the service without our agreement. Copal is not end-to-end encrypted — our systems read your note content to provide search and agent access. Do not store secrets you are not comfortable being processed in plaintext at rest; treat Copal like any hosted, non-zero-knowledge notes service.

Subscriptions, billing & plan limits

Your content & ownership

Your notes are yours. You retain all rights to the content you store in Copal. You grant us only the limited licence needed to operate the service for you — to store, index, embed for semantic search, transmit, and display your content to you and to the agents and clients you authorise. We do not use your content to train models, and we do not sell it. You are responsible for having the rights to the content you upload, and you can export your entire vault as a .zip at any time.

Availability & changes

We aim to keep Copal available but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may modify, add, or remove features, and may change these Terms; for material changes we'll give notice by email or a prominent site notice, and continued use after the effective date means you accept the change.

Termination

You may stop using Copal and delete your account at any time, which triggers a 7-day-grace soft-delete then an irreversible purge of your vault and identity data, as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms or that we must act on for legal or security reasons; where practical we'll give you a chance to export first.

Disclaimers & limitation of liability

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the extent permitted by law, including that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that no data will ever be lost. Keep your own backups — the export tool exists for this. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, unless mandatory local consumer-protection law provides otherwise.
